Virtual Reality Tours: An Out-Of-This-World Experience
Drastically Improve How You Conduct Your Salesroom and Onsite Sales Process.
Although the average person may think that virtual reality was invented within the last decade, the first technologies involving virtual reality date as far back as the late 1900s. Computer scientists and the like continued coming up with new technologies, leading to the advanced virtual reality we have today. We commonly associate it with video games, but it is being used in many other areas as well, including the building industry. Virtual reality has already been improving the construction process, and virtual reality tours are sure to make big strides in areas such as Real Estate, Interior Design, and in other building industry professions.
Where Did Virtual Reality Begin?
In 1957, Morton Heilig invented the Sensorama; although definitely not as developed as virtual reality is today, it created the illusion of a different reality. The invention was a booth, which contained stereoscopic images and released sounds and smells, allowing one to feel like they were in a different environment. After this, in 1960, Heilig went on to create the Telesphere Mask, the first VR head mounted display. A year later, the Philco corporation created Head Sight, used for military purposes. This was a bit more advanced than the telesphere mask because it had head motion tracking. The head mounted display of virtual reality went into a few different stages by various scientists until 2012 when Palmer Luckey came up with the Oculus Rift. In 2014, Mark Zuckerburg bought the Oculus for $2 billion, bringing VR to the limelight. Since then it is being used in many areas, including health, sports, art, and even food.
So, Where Are We Now? And More Importantly, Where Are We Headed?
There are many ingenious ways people are coming up with to use the technology. Most importantly for us, it is now being used in construction and other building industry sectors. For Construction, Build Change is an example of a nonprofit organization which builds in developing countries and disaster-prone areas. They use virtual reality to be able to show other involved parties what needs to be done throughout the building process. So you see, a benefit to them is that Virtual Reality can keep everyone on the same page, especially important for projects involving people on opposite sides of the world. Additionally, being able to see the pre-construction plans through VR allows those involved to easily catch issues early on in the process and fix them before they become a bigger issue.
Virtual reality tours are also useful for virtual staging. Traditionally, realtors would physically bring clients to an outdated and unfurnished site, but sometimes it is difficult for the client to visualize what this house would look like living in it. The solution? Contacting an architectural visualization company and having a digital panorama tour created that has some virtually staged furniture and small cosmetic changes! Add on the VR capability so the realtor can then bring the headset with them onsite, and voila! Their client or potential buyer can now visualize the potential of the home. This can result in a faster sale!
Similarly, interior designers can use VR tours to show clients what their house could look like based on their designs. This can be used in their sales room, or like realtors, bringing the headset to their home to visualize the difference. Sort of a before and after effect, if you will.
Builders and developers can use also use this tool as an alternative to building a model home. Think about how much money that saves the company in each community! Their potential buyer can virtually tour the panorama from sitting down even! If you don’t want to make that jump, it can be just for pre-construction sales to gain before the model is even built!
So, bottomline, why add this service to your sales room and onsite sales process? Virtual Reality ultimately expedites the sales process and improves customer experience.
The top three reasons why builders, developers, interior designers, and the like should have Virtual Reality in their sales room:
Efficiency
Have all of your sales items and homes for sale in your virtual reality headset, so that clients can easily see what they like and don’t like right in your salesroom or even onsite. This can lead to an easier sale and faster process.
Gain interest in new homes before they are built, or in new/renovated designs
Even if a home doesn’t exist yet, we believe it’s important for your client to get a good feel for their future life. Using a VR headset, better than ever before, clients can visualize the home yet to be built on an empty lot, allowing you to jump on pre-construction sales. This works the same way for interior/renovation designs.
Create an immersive experience for your home buyer or client
Who wouldn’t be blown away if they felt like they were standing in a room that doesn’t exist yet, especially one that could be theirs? Virtual Reality tours are a step up from the regular 3D tours currently used because now the customer can feel like they are actually inside and interacting with the home in a way they couldn’t before. It is all about the experience and the emotional connection. VR goggles can even include sounds, whether that be the sound of the waves rolling in at a beach front home, or birds chirping if the home is in a forested area, like this example below of a get-away rental property in Costa Rica. This would be on your website to show, but imagine in the sales room, having the goggles for your client to put on and feel like they are actually there!
Whether you’re a builder, developer, realtor, or an interior designer, your client will appreciate the ease in which they can visualize their new building, home, room, or interior design using Virtual reality tours.
