UAVs, also known as unmanned aerial vehicles or drones, have been utilized in the film and commercial industry for years now. Today, drones are beginning to take flight in the architectural industry to create renderings. This technology only recently became affordable for use in Architectural Visualization presentation materials such as drone renderings. These are now altering buildings and scenes, creating architectural worlds, and portraying future industrial growth!
Architects, developers, realtors, creative ad agencies, and builders are beginning to understand benefits of using drone integrated renderings and animations, offered at very select innovative architectural visualization firms, such as Artistic Visions, LLC. By getting ahead of the movement, these individuals will be able to capture more clients and effectively plan, design, construct, and market their projects over their competitors.
Benefits of Requesting Drone Renderings & Animations:
Realistic & Accurate Representation
Provides the most realistic and accurate representation for large scale projects since the project contains real shots and footage taken by the drone. Therefore, you can see exactly what the finished project will look like.
Unique Viewpoints
Due to the flexibility of being able to fly to different heights, unique realistic views of the project are now possible.
Save on Time and Costs
High level of detail provided by the aerial footage saves time and costs by allowing to identify any concerns or issues as early in the planning phase as possible. It may also prove to be less expensive comparatively to an aerial 3D rendering including the entire surrounding area, which would require the CGI artist to model and render every intensive detail of the area.
Stay Ahead of the Industry

So How Are Drone Renderings Created?
Slide the middle arrow side to side to see a before and after of this Miami Condo drone rendering. In the “before” image, you will notice the gray area, or clay model, of the condo building. Our Artistic & Technological Developer digitally modeled this area directly within his drone footage of the original empty lot on this Miami Island. Therefore, everything outside of this gray area is in fact the real image that was taken from the drone’s camera. The “after” image shows the completed CGI Drone Integrated 3D Rendering.
The Artistic Visions Process..
FAA Certified & Insured
Our CGI Artistic & Technological Developer, plans the shoot by first studying the site on Google Earth. Next, he does a mock-up, or pre-animatic. This would be a CG camera that we would replicate with the drone to anticipate any difficulties on the site. We then plan the day and time, then take a ride to the site to shoot the footage. Similar to any outdoor photography, a clear day and a low sun angle are ideal.
Mornings and right before dusk are great times of days to get excellent shots. The goal is to catch the best lighting that tells the story or presents the subject matter in the most desirable way. Every shot will be different, but the biggest challenge that we watch out for while shooting is existing trees and building elements that would overlap the CG elements.
After shooting the footage, our pilot & artist then tracks it to create a 3D camera that matches the drone shoot. He then adds lighting to the building to match the plate photography (the drone video). Finally, once happy, he renders the piece to create the next best visualization!
A few tips for you to watch out for when looking to collaborate with an Architectural Visualizations Firm for drone renderings..
Pilot Experience and Licensing
The first, always make sure their pilots have considerable experience flying and are licensed by the FAA. When you are publishing your work to a broad audience, you want to make sure that the drone footage adheres to all the FAA regulations since your name is on the product.
Equipment
Make sure that the firm is taking account into the specifics of the camera used, lens distortion, and white balance.
Cinematography Standards
Take notice of poorly planned shots and just plain old bad cinematography. You should be able to spot these out on the firm’s portfolio.
Realistic Lighting and Details
Realistic lighting is also very important in these visuals. Double check their existing work to see if the lighting on the CG elements matches the photography or drone footage.
