2020 Design Trends to Help You Provide the BEST to Your Clients

The new year is just around the corner, and your clients are thinking of completing those finishing touches on their home or getting started on that remodel. Choosing design aspects of their home, although a fun way to show personality and make a space their own, can be overwhelming. To help you guide their decision making, we have gathered the up and coming 2020 design trends from trusted sources such as HGTV, Architectural Digest, Probuilder, and others.

Colors that are “in”

The Pantone color of the year is Classic Blue. While bold, it is also comforting, and is a great color for a living room, helping guests to feel at home.

You can find more beautiful blues and other earthy tones, which will give any room a feel of serenity, in HGTV’s 2020 “Simply Blissful Color Collection.” This includes their 2020 color of the year, “Romance,” a soft pink which will certainly bring a little bliss to your everyday routine. See the inspiring collection, along with samples, below.

Architectural Digest says that neutral colors that are often in the background such as off whites, tinted grays, earthy ochres, and tactile beiges, will instead be in the foreground.

Bringing nature indoors

In today’s technological world, humans are feeling a need to take a step away and reconnect with nature. Using natural colors and materials, and having more plant life can help us do so, as well create a spa-like space in which we can unwind and relax. A natural color that HGTV suggests Behr’s “Back to Nature.” Every source we consulted reported that natural elements are a big part of the “in” design for 2020. Whether that means using natural, earthy colors or incorporating an indoor garden. This also means, according to Eternity Modern, using organic materials such as rattan, jute, wood, stone, and terracotta.

Be Bold

Elledecor says to try bold monochromatics. Don’t be afraid to have different shades of the same color throughout a room. In the same vein, why not paint an entire room (trim, shelves, and all!) the same color? It’s a nice way to envelope a space and tie it together.

Instead of having single colored tiled floors or walls, incorporate pattern! HGTV suggests textured and geometric bathroom tiles. And when it comes to wallpaper, don’t be afraid to have the same print on a piece of furniture that you have on the walls!

Finally, when it comes to structure, while open concept is becoming more popular and there’s a departure from formal separation of spaces, people are thinking outside of the box and want more alternative gathering spaces. This is where a nice indoor garden can be useful, or an open sunroom with lots of windows and comfy seating.

The bold monochromatics of the earthy green walls and stool legs, as well as the incorporation of the natural plants and wooden furniture in this sports bar rendering, create a bold, yet natural feel. The pattern tiles with these colors creates a daring and exciting feel, making customers feel confident as they enjoy great food and drink with friends. Client: Luis Gutierrez AIA
The plants above the bar and on the tables,a long with the outdoor terrace in this sports bar, create a natural feel, making customers feel like they can take a breath of fresh air as they enjoy their experience. Again, the addition of the bold monochromatic walls and tiles adds a touch of confidence and dramatic appeal. Client: Luis Gutierrez AIA
